MORE ABOUT THIS SITE
www.thefundingsite.co.za is an initiative of the GreaterGood South Africa Trust that aims to support the development of an effective social capital by building the capacity of non profit organisations to access social capital and other resources by providing information, tutorials and tips on how to prospect and build relationships with grant funders in South Africa and additional training, advertising and marketing services to the South African non-profit and development community.
The site was developed in 1998 by a group of successful non–commission based professional fundraisers in response to the need for (i) an accurate and continuously updated database of prospective donors (ii) greater cohesion and support networks within the development sector and (iii) the need for information available to the public on organisations that can be supported. However, from the outset the Funding Site aimed to serve the development community in the broadest possible way and so the online donor database - though critical and valuable in terms of its ability to generate funds for the ongoing viability of non-profits - is just a small part of what the Site does. We are delighted that now the site has become a formal part of the GreaterGood South Africa Trust. The GreaterGood South Africa Trust GreaterGood South Africa has a vision of a vibrant culture of philanthropy infusing all sectors of South African society ensuring that we are a nation of strong, interconnected communities caring well for ourselves, for each other and for the places where we live. Accordingly GreaterGood South Africa works to enable the nation to engage with, and substantially support, bona fide non profit organisations in innovative ways that result in the eradication of poverty and inequality in South Africa. (see www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za). The Funding Site and its aims thus form a core part of what GreaterGood South Africa aims to achieve.
The Funding Site both in itself and in its partnership with GreaterGood SA aims to provide a comprehensive educational, networking and marketing opportunity for non-profits so that they are able to expand and prosper in all areas. Through GreaterGood South Africa, we also provides non profits with online access and marketing / communications abilities in order to access a greater support base. This access and online presence is available to all registered non profits – even if they do not have online capability and offline registration opportunities exist. For more information and registration on GreaterGood South Africa visit www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za or email info@ggsa.co.za.
The Funding Site currently includes the following online features:
a searchable database of contact information on prospective donors dedicated to social investment in South Africa. The database is available to Non Profits on an annual subscription basis. Subscription fees are R750 for non profit organisations and R1,000 for Fundraising Consultants. However, organisations that are registered and current in their content on the GreaterGood South Africa Trust website pay only R500 per annum for a subscription. Information on the site is updated on a bi-annual basis so you do not have to pay for the next “edition” of the database during your year’s subscription. To view a sample entry click here.
Through our partnership with the GreaterGood South Africa Trust, the Funding Site also links to a comprehensive database of non profits. GreaterGood South Africa is dedicated to facilitating the development of a diverse and inclusive civil society in South Africa, one that facilitates public participation in, and engagement with bona fide accountable non profit organisations and community structures in order to unlock and appropriately channel the resources necessary for development. The site already includes information on more than 650 non profit organisations around the country.
A "What's On?" Classifieds advertising noticeboard brings you full details of the latest Requests for Proposals, Employment Opportunities, Training Workshops. Information is updated weekly so please remember to visit regularly to check out any opportunities that may exist for you.
In the What’s On? section you may also register your Benefit Events / Premieres which we aim to market to the broader public in order that they may also find out how to better assist the Non Profit sector. Whilst this service has not worked well on The Funding Site because of its nature as a resource and capacity building service to Non Profits, the GreaterGood SA site markets to over 6,000 public givers each month and receives more than 200,000 unique visits each month so is a great place for us to market events that can support you. All advertising is free to anybody who has something to offer. Please send your information in by end of day Friday to appear on the following Monday.
Finally the site includes Non Profit Resources Section which includes Interesting Topics – discussions on various issues of relevance such as proposal writing, registration as a Non Profit, drawing up a budget, designing and/or implementing a planned giving programme etc. Important Links to other important and useful sites of interest and potential benefit, information on Professional Services. Lastly this section includes the Funding Site and Trialogue’s collaborative self-reflective questionnaire to undertake an evaluation of your current organisational practices and how they relate to the average practices of others who have complete d this form. Please note that this is not a “test” nor designed to judge you but simply to rather encourage thought and debate about current practices and the potential to improve issues such as sustainability, governance, financial controls etc.
